Job Function To provide support and assistance in developing and offering a range of literacy and education programs while assisting in the smooth overall operation of the YWCA’s Family Resource Center and its work in Woodlawn.


Adhere to the policies of the YWCA and support its Mission and Vision.

Ensure the confidentiality of each applicant, resident, resident family and those served by the Family Resource Center.

Provide assistance in operation of multiple programs including, but not limited to: Let’s Cook, ArtReach, Tutoring, CREW, PRIME TIME and participant coordination as needed.

Production of resource materials, access to and preparation of the Family Resource Center meeting space, program promotion, execution, volunteer recruitment and any support necessary to ensure program's success.

Create and develop creative curriculums and teach programming that empowers families living in Woodlawn.  Teach in a variety of settings ranging from one-on-one settings through tutorial work to classroom teaching to small and large groups in one and multiple time settings.  Manage entire cycle from concept initiation, thematic and pragmatic development, recruitment, lesson-planning, teaching and outcomes assessment.

Support YWoodlawn FRC Coordinator in development and execution of programming for the Family Resource Center including staff support to organizational activities and individual volunteers, residents, neighborhood outreach. Position will be responsible for ensuring participant coordination as well as oversight in ensuring smooth operations of all programs at the Center.

Provide compassionate, empowering assistance to all neighborhood residents, program participants, volunteers and funders in a professional manner reflective of the YWCA and its Housing Department.

Assist with the reception and answering telephones to ensure Family Resource Center guests and calls do not go unanswered and that requests and inquiries are properly directed.

Initiate and maintain volunteer data base, program participant data base, program participation attendance logs as well as pre/post surveys in coordination with the YWoodlawn FRC Coordinator.

Follow the procedures, schedules and practices established by the YWCA under the supervision of the YWoodlawn FRC Coordinator.

Assist with tours and visits to the YWCA as may be required.

Attend required meetings and in-service trainings as may be required by AmeriCorps and actively participate in Housing Department meetings as requested, working collaboratively with other members of the YWCA’s Housing Department in the fulfillment of the department’s obligations.

Marginal Functions:

Assist with the upkeep of the Family Resource Center to ensure cleanliness, safety and good repair and to assist with the cleaning and set up of the facility as may be needed.

Assist YWoodlawn FRC Coordinator and Assistant Director of Housing in operation of YWoodlawn apartment complexes with respect to property management, tenant issues, communication with applicants and/or residents, property inspections and other residency matters as may be required.

Place work orders for repairs at the Family Resource Center as may be needed and assist YWoodlawnSenior Coordinator in ensuring the facility maintains adequate inventory of goods necessary for the FRC’s operation.

Receive all items received as donations to the YWCA and properly document/report them to Communications.

Perform all other duties deemed necessary for the smooth operation of the Housing Office and the YWCA, overall.

Academic and Experience Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree preferred. Some college courses required.

The AmeriCorps position starts September 2017 and concludes August 2018. The position is located in Birmingham, AL and serves Monday through Friday during normal business hours.
