Provides education about healthy relationships and dating violence to middle and high school students, and provides domestic violence outreach education throughout the community.
Responsible for teaching the healthy relationships curriculum to middle and high school students in Jefferson, Blount & St. Clair counties.
Recruit schools and community youth programs to participate in the healthy relationships program.
Serve alongside area teachers, school counselors, principals, PTAs, and community leaders to advertise program.
Schedule and coordinate all speaking engagements at schools.
Adapt the healthy relationships curriculum for a variety of age groups and audiences, including after-school programs and summer camps.
Provide personal vehicle for speaking engagements and represent YWCA and Domestic Violence Services at community events such as health fairs and outreach programs as requested.
Provide service on some evenings and weekends.
Maintain detailed statistics and evaluations regarding the students served in the healthy relationships program.
Be responsible for on-going professional growth and knowledge of current developments within the field.
Perform all other duties deemed necessary for the smooth operation of the program and the agency as directed by the Director of Domestic Violence Services programs, including crisis line, childcare and court advocacy.
Academic and Experience Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Teaching, training or group facilitation experience preferred.

The AmeriCorps position starts September 2018 and concludes August 2019. The position is located in Birmingham, AL and serves Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Some evening or weekend service is required. Men and women are encouraged to apply. A passion for serving the community and commitment of one year is expected of all.
