Description

Provide legal counsel and assistance to qualified applicants in the Family Law Center program, specifically victims of domestic violence and abuse.


Basic Responsibilities:

Provide intake services and screen applicants for appropriateness for program

Make legal referrals as indicated

Conduct case preparation, resolution and follow up

File motions and attend court hearings on behalf of clients

Counsel clients and provide supportive legal services

Conduct case mediation and negotiation

Gather data, complete and submit necessary reports

Attend staff meetings and trainings

Continue professional growth and knowledge of current developments within the field

Adhere to the policies of the program and the YWCA

Perform all other duties deemed necessary for the smooth operation of the program and the YWCA

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Juris Doctor degree and license to practice in the State of Alabama

Three (3) years of practice experience - family law, divorce, custody, family court, juvenile proceedings or social services preferred.

Computer skills in word processing and databases

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Sensitivity to issues of domestic violence and abuse
