Description

Responsibilities:

 

Management

  • Lead team of grant accountants to work as an administrative unit in collaboration with multiple departments throughout the organization
  • Communicate effectively with the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Senior Vice President of Community Initiatives & Programs
  • Present financial budgets, reports, and contracts to the Finance, Audit, and Program Committees
  • Maintain documented system of grant agreements, policies, and procedures

 

Transactions

  • Ensure vendor payables are paid in a timely manner
  • Ensure receivables are collected promptly
  • Ensure monthly reconciliations are completed timely
  • Maintain chart of accounts for grant funded programs
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions

 

Reporting

  • Issue timely and complete budgets and financial statements for all grant funded programs
  • Calculate variances from the budget and note significant differences

 

Compliance

  • Assist with completion of annual financial audit
  • Maintain working knowledge of funding source rules and regulations
  • Oversee fiscal audits for all grant funded programs
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal reporting requirements

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

The grant controller candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related business field and at least 5 years accounting experience.  Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant designation, prior non-profit experience, prior managerial experience, knowledge of Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book), and experience with federal and/or state grants/contracts.  Candidates should display the ability to perform effectively as a team player.  Candidates must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance.

 

Working Conditions:  Normal office environment with occasional overtime.
