This position provides support to domestic violence victims through court advocacy and shelter services; assist with day-to-day operations of program and services.

Basic Responsibilities:

Provide advocacy for victims of domestic violence in the justice system

Regularly attend courts as assigned

Assist victims with Protection from Abuse petitions

Complete data entry and maintain statistics as required

Accept shelter donations from community members; assist with sorting and storing donations appropriately

Provide case management and supportive services to in-shelter clients

Conduct client intake procedure and shelter policy orientation for new clients

Provide appropriate referrals to clients ineligible for shelter or seeking other assistance

Assist with day-to-day operations of shelter, including, but not limited to: transportation, shopping, upkeep and cleaning of facility, menu planning, chore assignments, room preparation and providing clients with medication and supplies as needed

Assist with supervision of shelter clients and security for facility

Answer and effectively deal with incoming calls; appropriately handle and direct crisis calls

Represent YWCA Domestic Violence Services as liaison with community contacts to ensure appropriate referrals and coordination of victim services

Provide advocacy and community education through public speaking engagements, personal contacts, law enforcement and judicial trainings, etc.

Adhere to the policies of the program and the agency

All other duties as assigned and deemed necessary for the smooth operation of the program and the agency


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Strong interpersonal, communication and crisis intervention skills

Ability to work within a team

Knowledge of the St. Clair community and relevant resources


Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, criminal justice, social work or related field required

One-year experience in social services environment providing direct client services preferred

Valid Alabama driver’s license and insurance

Ability to travel throughout St. Clair County service area

Some evening and weekend work required; on-call after-hours on rotating basis
